Louis XVI duchesse
Like an unsure ballet dancer on her first night, the duchesse appears to be standing on it's pointes as if uncertain of which direction to hop.
The Duchesse became popular in the 1750s in the new drive for comfort inspired by the French court at Versailles. The Duchesse is essentially a day bed with one end taller than the other - an armchair on one end which extends to a low chauffeuse on the other. This version features an open end, which allows visitors to linger on the edge as they approach you.
