Centre table with natural voluptuous motifs of Louis XV grandeur
This outstanding Louis XV-inspired centre table is lavishly carved with the naturalistic, voluptuous motifs. This design was the height of fashion during the Louis XV period and in keeping with decorating dictates, they were often considered more a part of the architecture than merely a piece of furniture.
As a rule, it was believed that no single element of the 18th century interiors should be considered on its own. Every element, from upholstery to hardware, served to unify the design of the room. A console table of a different height, which we call a centre table now, was then considered an integral part of the architecture of the wall and of the entire room.
Displaying a superb degree of artistry, this table exemplifies the grace and charm of the Louis XV era.
